The KTM 250SX and 250EXC models were introduced by KTM in 1995 as part of their lineup of enduro and motocross motorcycles. The specific model number 54630005444 doesn't directly correspond to a particular year or variant, but it's likely a reference to a specific configuration of the 1995 KTM 250SX or 250EXC. Here, we'll discuss the pros and cons of buying a used 1995 KTM 250SX or 250EXC without the cylinder jug top end, keeping in mind that the specific condition of the bike will impact these points.
Pros:1. Historically Significant: The 1995 KTM 250SX and 250EXC models are considered classics in the motocross and enduro scene, and owning one could be an attractive prospect for collectors or enthusiasts.
2. Affordability: A used 1995 model without the top end may be more affordable compared to buying a new bike or one with a fully rebuilt engine.
3. Customizability: A used bike without the top end may offer the opportunity for the buyer to rebuild the engine with their preferred components, potentially enhancing performance.
4. Reliability: A used bike without the top end may have already undergone some repairs or maintenance, making it more reliable than a bike that hasn't been serviced.
Cons:1. Unknown Condition: Without the top end, it's impossible to know the exact condition of the engine, which can lead to uncertainty regarding the bike's overall reliability and performance.
2. Repair Costs: The cost of rebuilding the engine, including purchasing the necessary parts and labor, may outweigh the savings of buying a used bike without the top end.
3. Availability of Parts: Finding the specific parts needed to rebuild the engine may be challenging, especially if the bike is an older model or if the parts are no longer in production.
4. Time Commitment: Rebuilding an engine is a time-consuming process, which may not be suitable for those who want to get riding as soon as possible.
Conclusion:The decision to buy a used 1995 KTM 250SX or 250EXC without the top end depends on individual circumstances and priorities. If the buyer is an experienced mechanic with the necessary tools and resources, and they're willing to invest the time and money into rebuilding the engine, this could be a worthwhile investment. However, for those who prefer a more turnkey solution, it might be more practical to look for a bike that already has a rebuilt engine or to consider purchasing a newer model. Ultimately, thorough research, careful consideration, and perhaps seeking advice from knowledgeable sources can help guide the decision-making process.
The bike did run, but didn't have great compression, took maybe 5 kicks to get her running. I'll remove the cap soon for better images. Comes with everything in the pictures. Came off a running 1996 KTM 250SX.
Comes with all internals shown. In good condition. Garage kept, low hours, well maintained. If your in the USA, I will always try to ship two day air if possible.
Either way needs repair. Possibly just a hone but it has what looks like split, I'm not sure. Nothing has been removed from under the valve cap. Needs to be repaired.
Will fit other model's, check to make sure it fits yours before buying.
